Restoration of Feast Hall
Old Economy Village, Ambridge, PA

This brick building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is the second oldest Museum in the United States.

The work was accomplished for the Pennsylvania Historic and Museum Commission. It involved rewriting the Historic Structures Report to more accurately depict the building and its place in Harmonist History. Research was also accomplished to determine the number and types of roofs placed on the structure over the years. This research involved the analysis of historic photographs, text, and field review of nailing patterns. Research was also accomplished to determine when the various structural tie rods were installed. This research enabled PHMC to be able to remove two of the visually offensive tie rods that were installed circa. 1900 (well outside of the period of significance) and were not necessary from a structural point of view.

This Building shows our expertise in Museum and Preservation. We are working with the Exhibit Designer and the criteria of the National Endowment for the Arts on the re-establishment of the museum after restoration.
