Sample School
Cranberry Township, PA

A more prosaic example of ‘school work’ is the moving and preservation of the 1870’s vintage Sample school in Cranberry Township, PA. Faced with the loss of one of the few remaining examples of the rural environment that remains in the rapidly urbanizing township, the supervisors and this office envisioned the relocation of this building to the front of the existing municipal building.

The Sample school, although originally one of six schools in the Township, was also the first municipal building. Placing the first adjacent to the current building (a huge contemporary structure) visually ties the history and future of the Township.

The skills evidenced by this project are moving of a historic structure, preservation of the historic fabric, research as to the historic roots of the building.
